Alphatron Marine has received an order from the American Nordica Marine in the U.S.A to design and deliver a complete integrated solution for communication, IT and AV systems for the Atlantic Amsterdam and Atlantic London platforms. Both drilling platforms will be converted into a ‘hotel-at-sea’. Alphatron had previously successfully supplied the Atlantic Labrador accommodation platform for the same company.
‘Nordica Marine was really impressed by the speed and quality of our efforts on the Atlantic Labrador for Atlantic Marine Services B.V.,’ says Dennis Winterswijk of the Communication division of Alphatron Marine. ‘Everything was delivered well within schedule and approved by the classification authority. Here we have delivered a complete package for internal communication, telephone systems and broadcasting systems together with Alphatron IT&AV Solutions, which was responsible for the IT and entertainment systems. Since we fulfil the role of ‘system integrator’, it is easier for the customer to use and maintain the systems and make optimum use of the functionality of the various systems. For instance, on board there is an interface with the Alphatainment system that enables the helicopter flight schedule to be shown on a separate TV channel. All systems cater to the modern ‘crew welfare’ requirements needed to recruit and retain good offshore personnel, such as HD-TV, (wireless) internet and relatively low-cost external phone calls.’
One-stop-shopping
Also on board the Atlantic Amsterdam and Atlantic London is a broad package supplied by Alphatron Marine: an Alphaconnect 256 telephone system, AlphaAnnounce PA/GA system, Alphatainment IPTV, data and WiFi network, VSAT satellite communication and the GMDSS communication package. Alphatron Marine has developed a number of these products itself in order to respond to the functionality and design wishes of the customer as much as possible.
The Atlantic London will be converted in Batam, Indonesia, into accommodation for 322 people and serve as an accommodation platform for a TOTAL gas field in Myanmar. The Atlantic Amsterdam will be converted at the Scheldepoort in Vlissingen into an accommodation platform with 132 single cabins for Maersk that will be working on the Danish shelf in the North Sea.
