A proper on board entertainment system to serve the welfare of Crew and/or Passengers operating in different maritime markets, can do so much more than providing TV only. What about added safety and information features?
Due to its IP structure the Alphatainment Cabin Entertainment system (CES) complies with the requirements of tomorrow’s commercial shipping. A lot less space is required for the centralized hardware (no more tuners), the entertainment is sent to each location through the onboard data network (no more separate coax network), the system provides interfacing provisions and it has remote accessibility for servicing possibilities.
On location it uses no other hardware than a TV and a single remote control. From here the user is able to enjoy multimedia services such as (HD)TV, radio and Video/Audio On Demand. Using Alphatainment creates many new possibilities for Ship Owning companies where a crew/passenger welfare concept can now also be seen as information and safety tools; infotainment.
The safety dimension takes the form of the system being a possible delivery platform for instructional videos and capable of interfacing to a PA system, interrupting immediately in the event of an Emergency Announcement. It is possible to add streaming images of the onboard CCTV system to the entertainment network as separate TV channels. Also users might be granted access to bridge information channels this way.
Alphatron is currently involved with many different interesting projects, such as Accommodation platforms, Platform Supply Vessels, Pipe Laying Vessels, Pilot Station Vessels and other where the onboard entertainment concept will also be used for more than just TV. Onboard one project for instance it was requested to interface to the Helicopter flight schedule, another project requested to have survey information made available to a selection of user of the entertainment system.
In the third quarter of this year people even have the possibility to log in via their Apple device a watch the available content of the server through WiFi.
Alphatainment is a product with many developments to come. In our office in Rotterdam a showroom is created for product demonstrations.
